Research:
My research is wide-ranging, but generally deals with the historical political, economic, and social issues relating to northern and remote communities in Canada and the circumpolar north. In addition to completing a project exploring the activities of the Industrial Workers of the World in Canada (IWW), I am currently undertaking research on the history of resources and sustainable development in the circumpolar north as part of the Resources and Sustainable Development in the Arctic (ReSDA) research network.

I believe that every member of the university also has a responsibility to the community. I currently both volunteer and sit on the Board of Directors of the Canadian International Council - Thunder Bay BranchNorthwestern Ontario Archivists' Association, the Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society, and the Bay Street Film Festival. As a proud graduate of Lakehead University, I also sit on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Nationally, I am an Officer of The Champlain Society. Internationally, among many other commitments, I am on the international advisory committee for Faravid, the journal of the Historical Association of Northern Finland
